Flowers too can impart pigments. The best flowers for eco-printing are flowers that contain yellow or orange pigments like tansy, goldenrod, hybrid colored yarrow, coreopsis, sunflower petals, zinnia, dahlia, marigold, black-eyed Susan petals, hybrid hibiscus blossoms, red hollyhock flowers, St. John’s wort flowers and leaves. Blue and purple flowers and leaves (i.e., like purple cabbage, blue iris or blue bells) tend not to be color-fast and will wash out to a gray color and will likely wash out completely over time.
