Kettle-dyed, 3-Ply DK weight, 100% fine Merino wool yarn, grown, sheared, processed, dyed, and spun in small batches by the small family-owned and operated sheep and wool company, Cestari located in Virginia, U.S.A. The Mt. Vernon Yarn Collection is spun on a traditional woolen system that creates a sound and sturdy yarn that highlights all the wonderful benefits of wool for knitting, crocheting, and weaving. The yarn has a soft hand, a lofty construction, and will provide your knit garments with beautiful stitch definition. Mt. Vernon is available in 4 weights: Fingering, Worsted, Bulky, and DK.

"Cestari wool is washed using a scouring process that keeps natural lanolin in the yarn and maintains the natural bounce and texture of the wool. We prefer our scouring process to the more contemporary carbonizing process because a carbonizing acid bath, done overseas, would burn out the vegetable matter, leaving the wool very clean but removing the lanolin and leaving the wool with less bounce and changing the original texture. Sometimes specks of easily removable hay or straw remain in our yarn; owner Francis Chester likes to say that if you put his yarns to your ears, you can almost hear the sound of life within it." - Cestari Sheep and Wool Co.

Cestari Sheep and Wool Company is a small family-owned and operated American manufacturer of high-quality yarn.  Francis Chester began this company in 1946 and has a farm in Augusta County, Virginia where he and his family raise the sheep for the wool used in their yarn.  They also source wool from reputable ranchers throughout the United States.  All of Cestari's sheep and wool products are always grown and processed in the United States.  Their cotton products are grown and processed exclusively in Virginia.
