Double-check before you order. This bobbin fits Ashford's non-sliding flyer, found on the Traditional, Travellers before the Traveller 3, and the original Kiwi 1 and Joy 1. Despite the name, it's no longer the standard bobbin on the Kiwi 2, Kiwi 3, Joy 2 or Traveller 3. Those take the Sliding Hook Flyer Bobbin. If you need a different bobbin, compare them all in our Ashford bobbin collection.

Single drive is for a wheel with one band around the flyer and a brake band over the bobbin, and it fits the Standard Single Drive Flyer. Double drive is for one long band looped twice, and it fits the Double Drive Flyer on a double drive Traditional, Traveller or Elizabeth.
Finishing
Both spin the same. Lacquered arrives sealed, and natural is bare wood for you to wax or seal, which protects it from lanolin and marks over the years. On a natural bobbin, sand the core lightly, leave the ends unsanded, and keep any lacquer very thin inside the grooves, or leave it off there, so the band grips.
Not sure which bobbin you have?
Measure across the ends of a bobbin that came with your flyer, leaving out the small drive whorl on top of a double drive one.
- 3 in with a smaller 2 1/2 in end is standard, or 2 3/4 in with 2 1/2 in on double drive
- 3 1/2 in on both ends is sliding hook
- 4 1/4 in is jumbo
The Basic Jumbo Flyer has fixed hooks like the non-sliding flyer, but it takes the Jumbo Bobbin.
Send us a photo of your flyer and we'll tell you which bobbin it takes.
