The Majacraft Flick Carder is a small, lightweight tool with two jobs. As a flick carder, it opens individual locks of fleece for spinning straight from the staple. As a cleaner brush, it lifts loose fiber off a drum carder's main drum so you can pack more fiber onto each batt. The same head ships built into Majacraft's Fusion Engine drum carder; this is that head, sold standalone for spinners who want one or both functions.

Two Tools In One

Use it like a traditional flick carder to flick the cut ends of locks before drafting, or run it across the surface of a drum carder between passes to gather stray fibers and pack the drum more densely. The picker on the leading edge is rounded rather than sharp pointed, so it grips fiber without damaging the carding cloth on a drum carder. That detail is what makes the same tool safe for both jobs.

Specs

  • Carding cloth: 72 TPI, 95mm x 55mm working area (3.75 In x 2 In)
  • Mounting plate: curved bamboo laminate, thin and rigid
  • Handle: cast and powder-coated, positioned directly over the working area to reduce wrist strain
  • Cloth edging: capped, no exposed cloth ends
  • Origin: hand-built in Tauranga, New Zealand

Who It's For

Hand spinners who prep raw or washed fleece by the lock will find the picker tip lighter and more controlled than a typical flick carder, with less wrist fatigue over long sessions. Drum carder owners use it as a packer and cleaner brush between passes, and as a way to lift finished batts cleanly off the drum. If you already own Majacraft hand cards or the Majacraft blending board, the same construction style and 72 TPI cloth carry across the line.
