Fiber Content: 40% UK Alpaca, 30% BFL (Blue Faced Leicester), 30% Polwarth

Chocolate Kiss is a Paradise Fibers custom blend of 40% UK alpaca, 30% Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) and 30% Polwarth, combed into a ready-to-spin top in a soft, heathered milk-chocolate brown. It spins like a dream, and the three fibers each bring something different.

Alpaca gives warmth, drape and a silky, gentle halo. Polwarth adds plenty of spring and softness, so the yarn does not go flat the way pure alpaca can. BFL brings luster and a long, smooth staple that balances the two and makes drafting easy.

Fiber details

  • Fiber content: 40% UK alpaca, 30% Bluefaced Leicester, 30% Polwarth
  • Color: Natural heathered brown, undyed
  • Preparation: Combed top
  • Sold by: The ounce
  • Best for: Hand spinning; warm sweaters, hats, mitts and cowls

How it spins

A short forward draw gives a smooth, drapey yarn with a soft sheen. A long draw lets the Polwarth puff up for a lighter, loftier yarn. Because alpaca has no crimp of its own, give it enough twist to hold together, then wash in warm water to let the wool bloom.

What to make with it

Cozy sweaters, hats, mitts, cowls and blankets. The natural brown also overdyes beautifully: acid dye over it gives rich, heathered shades. Try our acid dyes, or browse more alpaca spinning fiber and specialty blends.

Questions about Chocolate Kiss

What is Chocolate Kiss made of?

40% UK alpaca, 30% Bluefaced Leicester and 30% Polwarth wool.

Is it dyed?

No. The color is the natural heathered brown of the fibers, which also makes it a good base for overdyeing.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes. BFL and Polwarth are easy, forgiving wools to draft, and they give the alpaca the structure it needs.

How much fiber do I need?

Plan on about 4 oz for a hat or small shawlette, 8 oz for a generous shawl or scarf, and 1½ to 2 lb for an adult sweater. Buy it all at once: this is a small-batch blend and may not be restocked.

How is it priced?

Sold by the ounce. Quantity pricing applies automatically at 4 oz, 8 oz, 1 lb, 2 lb and 5 lb, so buying for a sweater costs far less per ounce than buying a single sample.
