What’s the Stitch About Knitting Machines?
Let's talk about knitting machines! What are they, how do they work, and does it count as hand crafting if you use one? Why choose a knitting machine vs knitting by hand?
We have run out of stock for this item.
Schacht's hand bobbin winders are available in single-end and double-end models. The single-end winder has a tapered shaft that will accommodate bobbins up to 6″ long. The double-end winders can be used for bobbins, pirns, and large-flanged spools up to 9″ long and 5-1/2″ in diameter. A clamp incorporated into the base means you’ll never have to hunt around for a “C” clamp again. They are belt-driven with self-lubricating bronze bearings. Updated in 2019 to be made with Plywood to increase the stability of the winder. Click HERE to see the Single & Double Ended Hand Winders Assembly Instructions.
Schacht's electric bobbin winder is double-ended and will accommodate bobbins, spools, and pirns up to 9″ long and with flanges up to 4″ in diameter. An electric winder saves time, especially when there’s a lot of winding to do. The speed of the winder is controlled by a foot-powered rheostat like that of a sewing machine. Click HERE to see the Double End Electric Winder Instructions.
Schacht's lace winders are the same as our double-end hand and electric winders, with tips that will hold a lace or tapestry bobbin rather than a shuttle bobbin. The lace winder is available only in a double-end model. If you already have a double-end winder, you can purchase lace tips separately. (The single-end hand winder cannot be converted to wind lace or tapestry bobbins.)
