One of the oldest types of domestic rabbit, bred for the long, wispy fibers known as Angora Wool. There are 11 distinct breeds of Angora rabbit each prized for its wool, this Angora is of the french variety and has a longer staple length than most Angora tops of 2-3 inches. Originating in Ankara (present-day Turkey) the Angora was first brought to France in 1723. The Angora rabbit became a popular pet of French royalty and quickly spread to the rest of Europe by the end of the 18th century and to the United States in the early 20th century. The soft and silky fiber is a delight to hand spin due to its lightweight warmth, fine micron count of 14, and pure white color.
This fiber takes dye beautifully and is a delight to blend with other fiber such as wool and silk.
