Discover Our Top Alternatives: JoAnn’s K+C and Big Twist!

There are a lot of fiber arts crafters that are wondering where to turn for their yarn fix following the closing of JoAnn Fabric and Craft stores. If you’ve recently visited a JoAnn store and found yourself lamenting the loss of your favorite yarns, you’re not alone. Many a knitter or crocheter have been into the shop to lament the loss of JoAnn yarns. JoAnn has long been a staple store for the crafting community, offering a wide variety of affordable yarns. Two popular, and proprietary, yarns were the brands King & Crochet (also known as K+C) and Big Twist.

With JoAnn stores closing these yarns are disappearing – causing fiber fans to look for quality yarn substitutes and near duplicates. While we can’t offer an exact replica of these yarns, we’ve scoured the store to find some fantastic alternatives that could become your new go-to. Take a look below for your favorite K+C or Big Twist yarn, and see what we found for you to explore as stand ins so you can continue creating beautiful pieces with confidence. If you are looking for where to find yarn substitutes for K+C and Big Twist, give some of these a chance!

Explore the Best Yarn Substitutes for JoAnn’s K+C Yarns

K+C Bliss – We recommend trying either Louisa Harding Giardino or Queensland Cairns, both of which are excellent alternatives with similar construction and texture. The content of Bliss breaks down 53% Cotton, 34% Acrylic, and 13% Nylon. Giardino perfectly matches the DK, with a blend of 52% Cotton and 48% Manufactured Fiber (Acrylic). Queensland Cairns is a little thicker at a Worsted weight and is a blend of 60% Cotton and 40% Acrylic. Both of these yarns are colorful options for a beautiful piece.

K+C Botanical – Take a look at Berroco Comfort Yarn or Feza Baby DK. Botanical is an Aran (or medium) weight yarn with a fiber content of 70% Bamboo Rayon and 30% Cotton. Berroco Comfort, aptly named, is a soft Worsted/Aran weight yarn with 50% Super Fine Acrylic and 50% Super Fine Nylon. Some crafters may prefer to look at the Feza Baby DK, which is a DK weight yarn, but has a more similar fiber content with 50% Cotton and 50% Viscose.

K+C Essential Wool – We recommend Urth Yarns Uneek Worsted to replace the well loved Essential Wool yarn from K+C. Essential wool is a 100% Superwash Merino Wool in an Aran Weight. Uneek is a worsted weight 100% Extrafine Merino Wool yarn that is machine washable. With solid color and slightly variegated options, your imagination is the limit!

K+C Hand-Dyed Cotton – Give Araucania Huasco Coton Glisten a try in the stead of the Hand-Dyed Cotton yarn. The Glisten is a near perfect match, with both being a 4- ply fingering. The Glisten has an added bonus of sparkle, being 94% Cotton and 6% Lurex compared to the K+C Hand-Dyed Cotton being 100% Cotton. Glisten has a wonderful shimmer that will add some glam to anything you make with it!
