Class Schedule: Saturdays, February 21st and 28th from 10am-noon each day.
Join us for an introduction to making your own handspun yarn on a spinning wheel that you can use for knitting, crochet, or weaving. You will learn the parts on your wheel, additional tools used in making yarn, how to prepare and draft fiber, how to ply yarn, how to take your yarn off the wheel, and how to set the twist. You will also learn how to make both a 2-ply and a chain ply yarn together in this class. You will also be introduced to using a drum carder to make your own batts and rolags for spinning. Before you know it, you will fall into the rhythmic and meditative world of hand spinning!Ā 

The class is a two-session class. Ā In the first class, learn all about your wheel and the basics of how to spin on your wheel. The second class covers how to ply your singles, how to set the twist in your yarn, and how to use a drum carder.

Class dates and times:Ā 
  • Saturday, February 21st, from 10am-noon
  • Saturday, February 28th, from 10am-noon
Supplies needed:
  • Spinning wheel in good working order, or borrow one of ours for $10.Ā If you want to borrow a wheel, please notify us at least one week before the class begins.
  • We will provide you with 1 ounce of fiber for free. You may need to purchase more for the class.

Requirements:Ā Wheels and spindles are available for use and purchase. We recommend you bring your own wheel in good working order along with bobbins, lazy kate and a niddy noddy if you have one. Ā
