Mirasol Rit'i is a brushed, airy Aran-weight yarn built around alpaca and fine wool, with cotton for structure and a fine synthetic binder that holds the whole thing light. Named for the Quechua word for "snow," it has a gentle halo and tweedy flecks of color, and it knits up far airier than its gauge suggests.

Each 100 g skein holds 328 yards, generous for an Aran, which makes Rit'i an economical choice for sweaters, cardigans, wraps and scarves. The eight shades are heathered and softly flecked, so they read differently in daylight than under lamps.

Your purchase also supports a worthy cause: a portion of every Mirasol sale goes directly to the Mirasol Ranch School in Peru.

What to make with it

Relaxed pullovers, open cardigans, wraps and cowls where a soft halo and light weight matter more than crisp stitch definition. For a complete project, the Rit'i Moonlit Wrap Kit bundles the pattern with the yarn. See the full Rit'i collection or all alpaca yarns.

Questions about Mirasol Rit'i

What is Rit'i made of?

26% alpaca, 19% fine wool, 17% cotton, 32% polyamide and 6% polyester. The alpaca and wool give warmth and halo, the cotton adds breathability, and the synthetic binder keeps the brushed structure light and strong.

Is Rit'i itchy?

Most knitters find it soft. The brushed alpaca halo is gentle, but anyone sensitive to haloed yarns should wear a swatch against the neck before committing to a sweater.

Why does it knit up lighter than other Aran yarns?

At 328 yards per 100 g it has much more length per gram than a typical Aran, and the brushed structure traps air. You get a warm fabric that weighs very little.

How do I wash it?

Hand wash cool and dry flat. Do not bleach or tumble dry, which can mat the halo.
