The drive band carries the treadle's motion up to the flyer, and it's a wear part. This is the genuine Schacht poly band sized for the Flatiron at 80-1/2 inches, the longest band in the Schacht line.

Fits

Every Schacht Flatiron, in Scotch tension or bobbin lead. If you run your Flatiron in double drive you want the cotton band instead, which we sell as a 3 pack of cotton drive bands. This poly band won't fit a Ladybug or a Sidekick, which run much shorter lengths.

Specs

Spec Figure What it's for
Length 80-1/2 in The Flatiron's Saxony frame puts the drive wheel well away from the flyer, which is why this band is so much longer than the castle wheels' bands.
Material Stretchy polycord It self-adjusts, so tension stays usable when you move the band to a different whorl groove, and it damps flyer vibration.
Drive modes Scotch tension, bobbin lead Covers both single-band modes. Double drive is the one setup that needs cotton rather than poly.

Making it last

Take the tension off the band when the wheel is put away for a while. A poly band left tight for months takes a set and stretches out well before it needs to.

When to replace it

A band that's finished slips under load and you can't dial the slip back out with tension. Visible fraying and a band that's gone obviously long are the other two signs. It's a consumable, so keeping a spare in the drawer is normal.

Questions about your wheel

We stock the Flatiron and its parts, so if you're not sure which band your wheel takes, call us and we'll check it against the one on our floor.
