Queensland Coastal Cotton is a soft, smooth 100% cotton in worsted to light aran weight, sold by the 100 gram ball. It's the plain, dependable cotton for summer tops, baby blankets, dishcloths, market bags and amigurumi, and the solid color range is deep enough to plan a whole colorwork project from one yarn.

Every ball is 185 yards, so a dishcloth is one ball and a baby blanket is usually five or six. It knits and crochets at a relaxed gauge on US 7 to 9, holds stitch definition well for texture and cables, and goes through the machine afterwards. The cotton is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, which matters when the finished thing is going on a baby.

If you want the same cotton with color already in it, Ocean Mist is the speckled version and Coral Reef is the bolder print. For a lighter fabric at the same softness, Coastal Cotton Fine is the sport weight with 350 yards to the ball.

Questions about Coastal Cotton

How many balls do I need for a baby blanket?

Usually five or six balls, depending on size and stitch pattern. A dishcloth takes one ball.

Is Coastal Cotton machine washable?

Yes. Machine wash, then dry flat to keep the shape.

Is it good for amigurumi?

Yes. It holds stitch definition well and does not split easily. Go down a hook size or two from the ball band for a firm, stuffing-proof fabric.

Is it safe for babies?

The cotton is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, meaning it has been tested for harmful substances. It is also vegan.
