The Schacht Bulky Flyer opens your wheel up to chunky yarn, art yarn, and heavy plying. Its 7/8 In orifice swallows yarn that would jam the regular flyer, and its large round guide hooks let textured singles pass without catching.

This is the flyer on its own
You get the bulky flyer assembly with its sliding hooks. No bobbin and no front maiden are included. Read the next section before ordering, because most wheels need one more part.
Check your front maiden first
The bulky flyer is wider than the regular flyer and needs a bulky front maiden with the larger bearing to sit in. If your wheel has never had a bulky flyer on it, the standard front maiden will not accept this flyer and you need the bulky maiden for your specific wheel as well. If you already own a bulky flyer setup and are simply adding a second flyer, or replacing a damaged one, this flyer on its own is what you want.
Buying bulky capability for the first time? The Bulky Flyer Package bundles the flyer, a Bulky Bobbin, and the correct front maiden and bearing for your wheel, so nothing is missing.
Bobbins
The Bulky Bobbin holds roughly 8 oz and is what you want for chunky singles and big plied skeins. Standard, Travel, and High Speed bobbins also run on the bulky flyer shaft, so your existing bobbins are not stranded.
Your whorl ratios do not change
Switching to the bulky flyer does not cost you any of your ratio range. The same whorl set works at the same ratios on either flyer.

A standard pair of socks usually takes 100g of fingering weight, while a hat takes about 100g of worsted.For Spinning Fiber, a standard 4oz braid will generally make a pair of socks or a hat.
