Earthues Aluminum Acetate Sold by the Ounce

Aluminum Acetate is a fine, white powder used for mordanting cellulose and bast fibers. Using aluminum acetate for cellulose fibers first came to our attention in J.N. Liles' 1990 book, The Art and Craft of Natural Dyeing. At that time, aluminum acetate was not commercially available and Mr. Liles had to formulate his own by adding sodium acetate to aluminum potassium sulfate.

The Earthues product is a commercially available, aluminum acetate dibasic (C₂H5AlO₄). 5% wog is used at 100F for mordanting cellulose following a vigorous scour.
