Nourish dry, hardworking skin with the forest floor in a squeeze tube.

Understory Salve is built on lanolin – deeply conditioning, skin-compatible ingredient that restores softness, seals in moisture, and keeps skin resilient through repeated exposure to weather, water, and work. Designed for hands that do things – gardening, fiber work, daily wear – it protects and repairs without feeling fussy or overworked.

Around that lanolin foundation, we layer calendula- and dandelion-infused oils for calm, grounded support, along with a blend of rich plant oils and butters that soften and replenish. The result is a salve that absorbs slowly, stays where you need it, and leaves skin flexible, not greasy.

The scent is a spring woodland in New England: frankincense and cypress with fir and cedarwood, lifted by hints of black pepper and bay laurel. It echoes the forest understory – the rich, shadowed layer where life regenerates. Not floral. Not sweet. Just honest.

Perfect for: Rough hands, dry elbows, minor scrapes, cuticles, and any skin that needs deep conditioning without fuss. Especially suited for hands that work, whether you're a crafter, mechanic, gardener, or anyone else who relies on the tactile.

Why lanolin first: Lanolin is what sheep’s wool naturally produces to stay supple and water-resistant. We use it the same way – as the core ingredient that deeply conditions, protects, and keeps skin soft, even in demanding conditions.

Ingredients: Lanolin, calendula-infused jojoba oil, dandelion-infused olive oil, avocado oil, beeswax, mango butter, squalane, vitamin E, and essential oils of frankincense, cypress, fir, cedarwood, black pepper, bay laurel, oakmoss, balsam of Peru, clary sage, and litsea cubeba.

How to use: Squeeze a small amount onto fingertips and massage into skin. A little goes a long way. Keep the cap closed between uses.
