The Louet stick shuttle is the flat, notched weaving shuttle Louet builds in Holland from smooth beech. This is the 30 cm size, roughly 12 In long and about 1 3/16 In wide, a versatile length for narrower warps, samplers, and supplementary weft.

What a stick shuttle does

A stick shuttle is the simplest way to carry weft across the warp. You wind yarn around the forked ends, then pass the loaded stick through the shed by hand. Because the yarn sits in open notches rather than on a bobbin, winding and unwinding take no extra tools, which makes the stick shuttle the natural choice on rigid heddle and frame looms and for tapestry, pin loom, and band weaving.

Why the Louet shuttle

  • Smooth beech, made in Holland. The faces and edges are sanded clean so yarn slides off the notch without catching or fraying.
  • Deep, rounded forks. The open ends hold a generous length of weft and release it evenly as you weave.
  • Light in the hand. At about 12 In the 30 cm shuttle passes easily through a narrow shed and stays comfortable through long weaving sessions.

Choosing a length

Match the shuttle to your weaving width. The 30 cm shuttle suits narrower warps and sampling, while wider warps are easier with a longer shuttle so you wind fewer passes. If you weave at a range of widths, keeping a few lengths on hand lets you span the warp in a single pass. Browse the full shuttle collection for other sizes and styles.
