Our maple double row wool combs are the only American-made wool combs featuring true stainless steel tines that won't rust. Designed and handcrafted at our Spokane woodshop with the kind of attention to detail and durability that fiber tools earn over years of use.

About the Walnut

Walnut is the dark counterpart to maple, with rich chocolate-brown tones and a prominent, open grain that gives each pair its own character. The darker hardwood makes light-colored fibers easier to track as you comb, and walnut takes on a soft hand-rubbed patina with regular use. Slightly less dense than maple but still plenty hard for fiber work, walnut is a premium American cabinetry hardwood prized for its color depth and grain figure.

What are wool combs used for?

Wool combs are fiber preparation tools used after washing and picking your fleece, just before spinning. Combing aligns fibers in one direction and removes shorter, neppy bits to create smooth, lustrous combed top. This preparation is ideal for spinning worsted yarns with strength and sheen, and wool combs also make it easy to blend fibers or colors for unique, custom spinning projects.

Why these wool combs are the best on the market

  • Only combs featuring true stainless steel tines (won't rust)
  • Ergonomic handles that fit any size hands
  • Lightweight, durable American hardwood
  • Made in America in our Spokane shop

Our wool combs were developed with form and function in mind, and we think they have a great balance of both. Lightweight, very durable, and built from locally sourced hardwood, these are high-end multi-purpose hand combs suited to any fiber artist.

Tine specifications

The stainless steel tines are 3/32 Inch thick and spaced 1/4 Inch on center for a total of 23 tines across each comb. The overall working width is 3 Inch. The tines are 3 5/8 Inch long, with the shorter row being 3 3/8 Inch long. These hand combs are ideal for opening and loosening fiber to prepare it for carding or further combing.

Wool combs help sort out various staple lengths and remove unwanted debris and vegetable matter trapped in the fibers. Watch the video above to see how to use wool combs and why they're a wonderful tool for processing wool and other animal fibers.

A combing pad or "holder" can be found here.
