A 9 inch circular knits a sock or a sleeve in the round with no needle changes at all. The tips are 2 inches long, so you knit with your fingertips close to the work. If you'd rather have more needle in your hand for the same jobs, the flyers or a set of double points do them with 3 inch tips.

HiyaHiya's bamboo is infused with resin, so it won't splinter or warp, and the needle stays light and warm in the hand. The surface has just enough grip that silk, bamboo and superwash yarns stay put when you set the work down, and it's the needle to reach for if steel makes your hands ache or cold.

Which length

For knitting in the round on one circular, pick a needle a few inches shorter than the piece is around, so the stitches reach comfortably from tip to tip. For magic loop, go 40 inch or longer whatever the piece. Not sure? Call or chat and someone who knits on these will tell you which one.

Length What it fits Tips

32 inch Adult sweater bodies, shawls and blankets 5.25 in tips

Steel and sharp versions of every length are in the HiyaHiya collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bamboo or steel?

Bamboo for yarn that slides (silk, bamboo, superwash merino), for cold or tired hands, and for a first circular, because the stitches stay where you put them. Steel when you want speed on grippy wool and a slicker tip for lace. Both come in the same lengths and sizes, so you can mix them project to project.

Is a 9 inch circular hard to hold?

It's different. The 2 inch tips mean you knit with your fingertips rather than your palms, and the first sock is where your hands learn it. If you'd rather have a longer needle in your hand, the 8 inch bamboo flyers do the same jobs with 3 inch tips.

Which size do I need?

The pattern tells you, and when it gives both, knit to the mm figure. Choosing without one: US 1 to 3 for fingering and sock yarn, US 4 to 6 for sport and DK, US 7 to 9 for worsted, US 10 to 11 for bulky, US 13 to 15 for super bulky.
