Lenore is a Paradise Fibers custom blend of 80% extra fine 18.5 micron merino and 20% eri silk, combed into a ready-to-spin top in misty lavender, dove grey, white and deep violet. It is inspired by the misty sorrow and quiet beauty of a love lost too soon, from Edgar Allan Poe's Lenore.

Eri silk is a soft, natural silk produced by the eri silkworm. Unlike smooth, highly lustrous mulberry silk, it has a delicate texture and a pearly, matte glow that blends beautifully with wool, giving Lenore her ethereal shimmer. The extra fine merino keeps it soft enough for next-to-skin wear.

Lenore was the second of two blends in our September 2026 Edgar Allan Poe Fiber Club, and it is the luxurious one. Its companion is Nevermore, a 100% merino top.

Fiber details

  • Fiber content: 80% extra fine merino wool (18.5 micron), 20% eri silk
  • Colors: Misty lavender, dove grey, white and deep violet
  • Preparation: Combed top
  • Blend: Paradise Fibers custom blend, September 2026 Fiber Club

How it spins

Fine merino drafts smoothly and the eri silk adds a soft slip. A short forward draw gives a smooth, softly lustrous yarn for lace and shawls. Split the top lengthwise to keep the color runs, or spin from the fold to blend the shades into a heathered mist.

Questions about Lenore

What is eri silk?

Eri silk comes from the eri silkworm. It is sometimes called peace silk because the moth can leave the cocoon before processing. It has a matte, pearly sheen and a slightly textured hand, softer in look than mulberry silk.

Is Lenore soft enough for next-to-skin wear?

Yes. At 18.5 micron the merino is extra fine, and the eri silk adds softness rather than scratch.

How much fiber do I need?

Plan on about 4 oz for a hat or small shawlette, 8 oz for a generous shawl or scarf, and 1½ to 2 lb for an adult sweater. Buy it all at once: this is a small-batch blend and may not be restocked.

How is it priced?

Sold by the ounce. Quantity pricing applies automatically at 4 oz, 8 oz, 1 lb, 2 lb and 5 lb, so buying for a sweater costs far less per ounce than buying a single sample.
