Louët's inkle loom comes in two sizes, cut from birch plywood and made in Holland. The Mini takes a warp up to 75 in and stands under 8 in tall, so it sits on a small table or packs for a class. The Standard takes up to 115 in, for belts and long straps. Louët builds both for band weaving and card weaving.

Pick by the length you want to finish with. Each loom leaves some warp unwoven, 8 in on the Mini and 12 in on the Standard, so the Mini gives you a band up to about 67 in and the Standard up to about 103 in.

The tension knob sits in the middle of the warp, which keeps the pull even as you weave, and a four-arm star knob makes it easy to tighten or ease off. Rubber O-rings on the peg ends keep the warp on the pegs, rubber feet hold the loom in place, and a spring on the starter screw clamps your yarn tail while you wind.

In the box

  • Loom body, 9 pegs, tension peg with star knob and base (the Standard has two base pieces)
  • O-rings, rubber feet, screws, glue and a sanding pad
  • Shuttle and the illustrated instruction manual

Assembly is gluing the 9 pegs in with a rubber mallet, then fitting the tension peg, base and feet. The manual covers tying heddles, warping and your first band. Tie heddles from #10 crochet cotton or braided nylon. The Standard also takes 150 mm Texsolv heddles, the same ones the Louët Erica uses.
