Fiber Content: 33% Whitefaced Woodland Top, 33% Shetland, 17% Recycled Wool, 17% South American Wool and Viscose

Forest Alchemy is a Paradise Fibers custom breed blend that brings the lush greens of the forest to your wheel: deep forest green, bark brown, cream and soft grey, flecked with tweedy viscose. The blend is 33% Whitefaced Woodland, 33% Shetland, 17% recycled wool and 17% South American wool, with viscose tweed for texture.

Whitefaced Woodland may be new to you. It is a hardy British hill breed with a soft yet springy hand and a natural luster that adds depth and life to your yarn. Shetland brings structure and warmth, the recycled and South American wools add character, and the viscose tweed gives subtle flecks of color, together capturing the layered richness of the forest floor.

How it spins

This is a friendly, grippy blend that holds together well, so it suits both new and experienced spinners. Spin it woolen from the fold or with a long draw for a lofty, rustic yarn, or worsted for a denser, more durable yarn. A hot wash and a good thwack will full it slightly and bring the tweed forward.

Questions about Forest Alchemy

What is Whitefaced Woodland wool?

Whitefaced Woodland is a British hill sheep breed from the Pennines. Its wool is springy, lustrous and hard-wearing, and it is much less common than Shetland or Merino.

Is it soft enough to wear next to the skin?

It is a rustic, characterful blend rather than a next-to-skin soft one. It is ideal for sweaters, hats, mittens and outerwear worn over a layer.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes. The mix of breed wools grips well and drafts evenly, which makes it forgiving to learn on.

How much fiber do I need?

Plan on about 4 oz for a hat or small shawlette, 8 oz for a generous shawl or scarf, and 1½ to 2 lb for an adult sweater. Buy it all at once: this is a small-batch blend and may not be restocked.

How is it priced?

Sold by the ounce. Quantity pricing applies automatically at 4 oz, 8 oz, 1 lb, 2 lb and 5 lb, so buying for a sweater costs far less per ounce than buying a single sample.
