The S10 Classic is the wheel Louet built in 1974 and has not stopped building since. Single treadle, bobbin-lead Irish tension, single drive band, and a 50 cm flywheel that stops where you stop. The open delta orifice, Louet's signature, accepts lockspun art yarn, beaded singles, and bulky plies without a threading hook or a size limit.

Bobbin-lead Irish tension means the bobbin pulls the yarn in and an adjustable flyer brake regulates how much resistance the yarn feels. Easy to learn, almost nothing to maintain, and especially confident at plying and medium-to-bulky singles. The three-ratio bobbin sheave (1:5.5, 1:7.5, 1:10.5) covers everyday handspinning. The optional high-speed bobbin extends the ratio range when projects ask for finer twist. Bobbins, flyers, and drive bands are modular across the S10 family and the S17, so accessories you buy today fit any Louet wheel you add later.

Made in Lochem in the Netherlands by Louet B.V., a Dutch design studio in continuous wheel production for five decades. The S10 chassis is the wheel that built the company, and the current generation refines the 1974 original under tighter CNC tolerances without changing the formula that made it a workhorse. Paradise Fibers has a Spokane showroom and an in-house repair shop. Call ahead so we can have one set up ready to spin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is bobbin-lead Irish tension hard for a new spinner?

It is more confident than apologetic. The take-up is strong by design, which makes the S10 Classic forgiving on uneven drafting and especially good at plying and medium-to-bulky singles. New spinners adjust to the take-up within the first hour or two, then most prefer it.

Can I spin fine yarn on the S10 Classic?

Yes, with the high-speed bobbin. The standard three-ratio sheave (1:5.5 to 1:10.5) handles sport-weight plies and sock yarn comfortably. For laceweight and very fine singles, add the Louet High Speed Bobbin, which extends the ratio range further.

Will older Louet S10 bobbins fit a current S10 Classic?

Yes. The Irish tension bobbin family is one of Louet's longest-running compatibility lines. Standard Irish tension bobbins fit the current S10 Classic, S10 Concept Irish tension, and S17, as well as legacy S10DT, S15, S51, S75DT, and older generations of the S17.

Does the S10 Classic need break-in?

A new wheel may squeak for the first one to ten hours of spinning, which is normal break-in. A light touch of Vaseline at the orifice generally resolves it. After that, the bearings are sealed and the wheel needs almost no maintenance.
