Blue Sky Fibers Metalico is a single-ply sport weight spun from half baby alpaca and half silk. The alpaca makes it soft and warm, and the silk gives it a sheen that catches the light like polished metal. It drapes and flows rather than springing back, so it's at its best in wraps, cowls, shawls and loose, lightweight tops.

Each 50 g braid is 147 yards (134 meters), and it knits at 5 to 6 stitches per inch on US 3 to 5 needles (3.25 to 3.75 mm). Six of the colors are the alpaca's own natural shades, from Opal to Sterling. The other ten are dyed and named for gemstones, Carnelian Red through Amethyst.

Wraps, shawls, cowls and light layering tops, anywhere the drape and shine get to show. Blue Sky writes its own patterns for Metalico, including the Covington Cowl and the Serenity Wrap. Questions about Metalico

Is there metal in Metalico?

No. It's 50% baby alpaca and 50% silk, nothing else. The shine comes from the silk.

How do I knit from the braid?

Untwist the braid into one big loop and wind it into a ball before you start, or have us wind it for you when you order.
