The Electric Eel Wheel Fold is the e-spinner that packs flat: 3.3 inches folded, 3 lb, and 3,000 RPM at the top of the line. One dial sets the speed, a tap on the foot switch starts it and another stops it, and a display shows the flyer RPM, so you can go back to the same number every session.

The motor is closed-loop: it reads the flyer speed and corrects it as the load changes, so the number on the display is the number you're spinning at. As shipped the dial runs 0 to 1,550 RPM, which covers most spinning. A second profile opens it to 3,000 for cotton, cashmere, yak and laceweight.

Bobbins change in seconds

Fold the rear maiden back, lift the tension string off, and the bobbin slides off the back of the flyer. The next one goes on the same way.

Built to be kept running

The wearing parts are standard pieces and we keep them on the shelf: drive belts, orifice hooks, both tension springs and the bobbin bearing. Nothing needs oiling. We service these on our own bench. Any trouble with your spinner, call the shop and we'll take care of it.

Fold or 6.1

Take the Fold to travel with and for fine work. Take the EEW 6.1 for 8 oz bobbins and fewer changes on a production run.

In the box

Base unit, flyer, bottom cover, six 4 oz bobbins, power supply, foot switch, orifice reducer and two hooks, six sliding hooks, both tension springs, spare belts, a hex key and the manual.

Questions we get

How do I get the full 3,000 RPM?

Hold the foot switch down while you plug in the power. The display blinks SP. Turn the speed dial to profile 2, let go, and four dots confirm it's saved.

What about vibration at speed?

Keep the sliding hooks in opposite pairs, one pair up and one down. At the top of the range, clamp the base to the table. The flat sections of the case are shaped for it.

Can I run it off a battery?

Yes. A USB-C power bank of 45 W or more with 15 V output, and a USB-C to 15 V trigger cable. A 12 V pack runs it at a little over 2,000 RPM.
