The Electric Eel Wheel 6.1 is an e-spinner: no treadle, no whorl, no ratio. One dial sets the speed, a tap on the foot switch starts it and another stops it, and what's left to learn is drafting. Setup is a few minutes and no tools.

A brushless motor turns the flyer at up to 1,800 RPM, the spindle is stainless steel, the bearings are sealed, and each of the six bobbins holds 8 oz, so a three-ply is covered with two bobbins spare. It spins from a chair, a couch or a passenger seat.

Built to be kept running

Every wearing part is a standard, low-cost piece and we keep them on the shelf: drive belts, sliding hooks, orifice hooks, both tension springs and the bobbin bearing. Nothing needs oiling. We service these on our own bench. Any trouble with your spinner, call the shop and we'll take care of it.

6.1 or Fold

Take the 6.1 for 8 oz bobbins on a design that's been in the field since 2021, revised in 2024. Take the EEW Fold if it has to pack into a bag, or for cotton, cashmere and laceweight, where its 3,000 RPM does real work.

In the box

Base unit, flyer, bottom cover, six 8 oz bobbins, wall power supply, foot switch, orifice reducer and two hooks, both tension springs, spare belts, hooks and string, eight yarn guides, a hex key and the manual.

Questions we get

Which spring do I use?

The firm one is fitted and covers DK and up. Swap in the soft one from the parts bag for consistently fine yarn.

Will my lazy kate hold these bobbins?

On 3/8 in rods, yes. On the usual 1/4 in rods it holds but rattles. The EEW Lazy Kate ships both sizes.

Can I run it off a battery?

Yes. A USB-C power bank of 45 W or more that supports 12 V output, and a USB-C to 12 V trigger cable. Plug the spinner end first.
