Ashford Katie Table Loom

The Ashford Katie is an eight shaft table loom with a 12 in weaving width, made for workshops, sampling, travel and fun. It folds with the weaving in place, and a padded carry bag comes with it. Ashford's own first project for the Katie is a twill table runner in 5/2 cotton, 9 3/4 x 46 in once hemmed and washed.

The overhead beater bounces back after each beat, and it flips up, and the front beam folds down, out of the way while you thread.

What's in the box

• The loom, assembled, lacquered and folded. Unfold the beams and the feet, bolt on the top beater rail, which travels packed separately, tie in the bungee cords and string on the warp sticks
• A 10 dpi stainless steel reed and 320 Texsolv heddles

Spare reeds, heddles and warping tools

The reed is Ashford's stainless steel table loom reed in the Katie's width. A spare is the same reed, and another dpi gives you another sett. Extra Texsolv heddles come in bundles of 40, and the bungee cords that tie the beater to the castle come as a pair. Ashford sells the Katie carry bag on its own too.

Ashford's project notes wind the warp on a warping frame, then spread it through a raddle onto the back roller. For that, Ashford recommends the 12 in Raddle Kit, which comes with its safety rings and helping hands, and the small Warping Frame it calls the perfect companion for the Katie.

For wider cloth, Ashford's Folding Table Looms come in four, eight or sixteen shafts with a shuttle race, the eight shaft up to 32 in, and the four and eight shaft looms fit a stand that takes a treadle kit.
