The Ashford Folding Table Loom is a portable multi shaft loom that suits new and experienced weavers alike. It folds flat with your weaving still on it, so it's the loom people take to workshops and guild days. The overhead beater swings and bounces back on its own, and the shuttle race under the shed keeps the shuttle from diving into the warp. Each shaft lifts independently on its own lever, and every lever sits within easy reach.

It's built from solid Silver Beech hardwood with a durable lacquer finish and stands on non slip rubber feet.

What comes with it

  • Swedish stainless steel reed, 10dpi on the 4 and 8 shaft looms, 12dpi on the 16 shaft
  • Texsolv heddles, 22cm (8.6 Inch), quantity by width below
  • Two lacquered stick shuttles sized to the loom: 46cm (18 Inch) on the 16 Inch, 56cm (22 Inch) on the 24 Inch, and one 56cm plus one 76cm (30 Inch) on the 32 Inch
  • Cross and warp sticks, plus cardboard warp sticks
  • Threading hook
  • Shuttle race
  • Learn to Weave on the Table Loom booklet, which takes you through winding a warp, beaming, threading and sleying, then finishes with a complete first project, a set of four dish towels with its threading draft and lifting plan
  • Assembly required, finish is factory lacquered

Ashford Table Loom specifications

Configuration Weaving width Texsolv heddles Weight
4 shaft 60cm (24 Inch) 480 9kg (20 lb)
8 shaft 40cm (16 Inch) 320 8.5kg (18 lb)
8 shaft 60cm (24 Inch) 480 10.5kg (23 lb)
8 shaft 80cm (32 Inch) 640 12.3kg (27 lb)
16 shaft 60cm (24 Inch) 1280 18kg (40 lb)

Weaving width is the widest cloth the loom will take. The heddle count is your ceiling on warp ends, since each heddle carries one end. Ashford provisions the 4 and 8 shaft looms for a balanced 20 ends per inch right across their full width, so the heddles in the box cover a standard plain weave without buying more. The reed's dents per inch set how closely you can sley that warp, and you are not capped at the dent count: the 10dpi reed supplied with the 4 and 8 shaft looms reaches 20 ends per inch by sleying two ends per dent, which is exactly what Ashford's own dish towel project does. The shaft count sets which structures are open to you, which is why the 16 shaft sits at the top of the range. Weight is worth reading before you pick a width, because a loom you carry to a guild day is a different purchase from one that lives on a table.

A note on the heddles

This loom is heddled with Texsolv, a flat woven polyester cord. If you've only used steel before, we wrote up how Texsolv heddles differ from steel.

Stands and accessories

A stand and treadle kit combo is available separately for the 4 and 8 shaft looms, and you can read more about that kit here. The 16 shaft takes its own bespoke stand, either the stand for the 24 Inch or the stand for the 32 Inch. Also worth a look are extra reeds in five sizes, spare Texsolv heddles, raddle kits, and a second back beam for warping two yarns at different tensions.

The 16 shaft in 32 Inch

Ashford builds the 16 shaft as a 24 Inch standard. The 80cm (32 Inch) came out of a 2026 limited production run, and we still have one, listed separately as the Ashford 16 Shaft Table Loom, 32 Inch weaving width.

New to shaft weaving

Types of looms and what each one is for walks through the whole range. If you're moving up from a rigid heddle, choosing your first shaft loom is the one to read first.
