The Standard Slow whorl gives the Kromski Minstrel its 6.5 and 8.5:1 ratios, the slower pair of the wheel's four. Lower ratios put less twist into each treadle and leave more time to draft, which suits thicker yarn.

Fits Kromski Minstrel
Ratios 6.5 and 8.5:1
Finish Unfinished, Finished, Walnut or Mahogany

The Minstrel comes with one, so this is the spare or the replacement. The faster 12 and 16:1 come from the wheel's other whorl, the Minstrel Standard Fast whorl. If you're spinning thick singles or plying heavy yarn, the Minstrel Jumbo Flyer Set comes with its own slow whorl at 4 and 5.3:1. Kromski's other whorls are in our Kromski whorl collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

The larger groove gives the slower 6.5:1, and the smaller groove gives the faster 8.5:1.

No. On the Minstrel, single or double drive comes from how the band is routed, not from the parts, so Kromski makes one Standard Slow whorl and it works in either mode.

Yarn that overtwists and won't wind on usually means the ratio is too high for that yarn, so move to the larger groove or a slower whorl. Yarn that pulls apart usually means the ratio is too low, so go faster.
