Ashford Weaving Frames

The Ashford Weaving Frame is a beech frame loom for freeform art pieces, wall hangings or detailed tapestries. Its grooves are set at 4 ends per inch. You wind the warp back and forth around the frame, and once it's threaded the warp holds the frame tightly together.

Only the weft shows in the finished weave, and Ashford's sheet has you mix fleece, wool sliver, fancy yarn and chunky handspun singles in one piece. Weave from your heart, or draw a design on paper the size of your weaving space and ink it onto the warp.

Small or large

Both frames are the same natural beech, grooved at 4 ends per inch, and Ashford's sheet for each gives the same steps to assemble, warp and weave. Only the size differs. If you're torn, call or chat with us.

Spare warp thread and weaving tools

Ashford makes its Tapestry Loom Warp Thread for weaving frames, a strong medium twist cotton. Ashford's sheet has you beat the threads into place with a tapestry beater, a dinner fork or your fingertips, and the Ashford Tapestry Beater has 10 wooden teeth at 5 dpi.

For many colors, the sheet has you wind each one into a butterfly, used instead of a shuttle, that unwinds from the center as you weave. Ashford designs its Tapestry Bobbins, sold in pairs, for weaving frames too. The Ashford Weaving Needles, a set of three with large eyes, weave hand-manipulated techniques.

Ashford builds its Weaving Starter Kit on the small frame, with a weaving needle, yarn, fiber, warp thread, a dowel for hanging and instructions for a first wall hanging.

For longer tapestries, Ashford's Tabletop Tapestry Loom carries the warp on top and bottom rollers and opens its sheds with the reed, in 16 or 24 in widths. To weave samples, scarves and table runners, the SampleIt Loom is Ashford's compact rigid heddle loom, 10 or 16 in wide.
