The SpinOlution Tensioned Lazy Kate is a freestanding bobbin holder built for controlled, smooth plying. An adjustable tension block and bobbin magnets work together to eliminate the back-and-forth bobbin movement that can disrupt fine plying work, giving you a steady, even yarn delivery throughout the ply. It also fits SpinOlution's 64 oz bobbins, which the standard lazy kate does not.

Why Tensioned

Two things set the Tensioned Lazy Kate apart from the standard model: tension control and 64 oz capacity. The standard kate fits bobbins up to 32 oz; the Tensioned model adds 64 oz capacity for the Monarch and Firefly's largest bobbin size, so for spinners running 64 oz bobbins this is the only kate option.

On the tensioning side, when plying on a standard lazy kate the bobbins gain momentum as they spin and can rock back and forth. Most plying tolerates this without issue, particularly for sport-weight and heavier yarns. For fine and lace-weight yarns, or any time you want a smoother plying feel, that bobbin movement can introduce inconsistency. The Tensioned Lazy Kate solves this with an adjustable tension block that holds the bobbins steady and magnets that secure them on the rods.

Features

  • Adjustable tension block to control bobbin resistance during plying
  • Magnets to secure bobbins on the rods
  • Three 1/4 In rods with 3/8 In adapters for cross-wheel bobbin compatibility
  • Adjustable legs for level placement on uneven surfaces
  • Small footprint suitable for any spinning setup
  • Crafted from sustainably sourced Baltic birch
  • No assembly required

Who Should Choose This Over the Standard Lazy Kate

If you mostly spin sport weight or heavier yarns and don't use 64 oz bobbins, the SpinOlution Lazy Kate at a lower price point will handle your plying without trouble. The Tensioned Lazy Kate is the better fit if you spin fine, lace-weight, or thread yarns where any bobbin inconsistency shows in the finished ply, if you simply prefer the smoother plying experience that adjustable tension provides, or if you spin on 64 oz bobbins.

Compatibility

The Tensioned Lazy Kate fits all SpinOlution bobbin sizes from 4 oz through 64 oz, including the 64 oz bobbins used on the Monarch and Firefly that don't fit the standard SpinOlution Lazy Kate. Place on the floor next to your wheel for plying with any SpinOlution wheel.
