Majacraft Luna Spinning Wheel

The Luna is Majacraft's most visually distinctive design, a hand-built scotch tension wheel built around an inline drive wheel and a sweeping bamboo frame. Where most spinning wheels turn perpendicular to the spinner, Luna's drive wheel rotates toward and away from you, giving the wheel a sculptural quality that reads as much like furniture as machinery.

That orientation is doing real work. The crank-and-belt drive system, refined from the proven Little Gem mechanism, paired with the inline drive wheel makes Luna noticeably stable and quiet underfoot. Treadling is light and responsive. The laminated bamboo drive wheel with a hardboard core carries enough mass for smooth inertia without making the wheel heavy to live with. At 15.4 lbs (7.0 kg), Luna sits firmly in place during a long spinning session and still picks up easily to move between rooms.

Luna ships with a fine flyer and a smooth ceramic orifice, well suited to traditional yarns from lace through bulky on the standard Little Gem Pulley's 5.9 to 16.7 ratio range. Almost the full Majacraft accessory line works on Luna, including jumbo bobbins, the Aura Hybrid Flyer for bulky and core spinning, the Lace Kit for super-fine yarns, and the Plying Flyer for jumbo plying.

Each Luna is individually hand-built, numbered, and tested in Tauranga, New Zealand before it ships. Luna arrives fully assembled. Add the included Luna Upper and Luna Lower drive bands and start spinning.

Whorl Ratios

Ratios are read from groove 5 (largest, slowest) on the left to groove 1 (smallest, fastest) on the right. The Fast Pulley has only four grooves and leaves column 5 blank.

• Universal Tensioned Lazy Kate: Three-bobbin angled kate with two tension settings, fits all Majacraft bobbins except Overdrive.

• High Speed Pulley Set (Fast Pulley): Adds the four-groove Fast Pulley, extends the top ratio to about 19.4:1.
