The Pollywog Accelerator is a bolt-on accessory for your SpinOlution Pollywog spinning wheel. It mounts between the upright and the flyer head, sitting in the drive path between the wheel and the flyer so the flyer spins at higher ratios. With the Accelerator installed, you get 18 ratios up to 43.5:1, the range for ultrafine yarn, lace singles, and thread spinning.
Choose Your Configuration
A working Accelerator setup needs two drive bands: the Small Band (Accelerator to flyer) and the Extended Band (drive wheel to Accelerator). The Accelerator unit ships with the Small Band already included; the Extended Band is the second band needed to complete the setup.
- Accelerator with Extended Band (most buyers): includes the Accelerator, the Small Band, and the Extended Band, so you have everything you need to install and start spinning.
- Accelerator without Extended Band: the Accelerator and Small Band only. Pick this if you already own an Extended Band, for example because you also own the Pollywog Orifice Riser, which ships with one.
If you ever need a replacement Extended Band, it's also sold individually as a variant of the Pollywog Drive Bands product.
What You Get
The Pollywog runs 6 ratios from 2.5:1 to 14.5:1 in its standard configuration, suitable for everyday yarn from worsted down to fingering weight. With the Accelerator installed, you get 18 ratios from 2:1 to 43.5:1, opening up the high end for fine, fine-fine, and thread work.
How It's Different from the 4A Flyer
The Echo, Monarch, and Firefly use a 4A flyer head, which is an integrated flyer with the accelerator built in. The Pollywog Accelerator is a separate bolt-on add-on that works with the existing 4 oz or 12 oz Pollywog flyer head. It exists as a separate add-on because the Pollywog is a budget wheel; building the accelerator into the flyer head would have raised the entry price. This way Pollywog owners can add fast ratios when they need them.
Compatibility
Designed for the SpinOlution Pollywog spinning wheel only, with either the 4 oz or 12 oz flyer head installed. Not compatible with other SpinOlution wheels. Not recommended in combination with the Pollywog Orifice Riser; the two accessories alter the geometry differently and don't stack cleanly.
