The single drive Ashford Sliding Hook Flyer Bobbin is the one the Kiwi 2, Kiwi 3, Joy 2 and Traveller 3 come with, and it fits the Sliding Hook Flyer, the Kiwi Sliding Hook Flyer and the Joy Sliding Hook Flyer Kit that updates a Joy 1. Their hooks squeeze and slide along the arms. The double drive bobbin fits the double drive Sliding Hook Flyer on a Traditional, Traveller or Elizabeth.

Single drive is for a wheel with one band around the flyer and a brake band over the bobbin, and double drive is for one long band looped twice.
Finishing
Both spin the same. Lacquered arrives sealed, and natural is bare wood for you to wax or seal, which protects it from lanolin and marks over the years. On a natural bobbin, sand the core lightly, leave the ends unsanded, and keep any lacquer very thin inside the grooves, or leave it off there, so the band grips.
Not sure which bobbin you have?
Measure across the ends of a bobbin that came with your flyer, leaving out the small drive whorl on top of a double drive one.
- 3 in with a smaller 2 1/2 in end is standard, or 2 3/4 in with 2 1/2 in on double drive
- 3 1/2 in on both ends is sliding hook
- 4 1/4 in is jumbo

One more than the number of plies, because the empty bobbin you wind onto counts, so a two-ply takes three and a three-ply takes four. A wheel that ships with this bobbin comes with three.
Put a drop of spinning wheel oil on the flyer shaft before you slide the bobbin on, and a drop on the bobbin bearings now and then.
